Well, the Grammys have done it again! This time voters for the "prestigious" awards ceremony have bypassed legit metal bands to award the Best Metal Performance trophy to comedy music act Tenacious D. The duo -- Jack Black and Kyle Gass -- took home the honor for their cover of Dio's 'The Last in Line' from the 'This Is Your Life' Dio tribute album.

Nothing against Tenacious D or their Dio cover, but one would think that a Grammy award in a metal category would go to an actual metal band. Tenacious D's recording beat out nominated works from Slipknot ('The Negative One'), Mastodon ('High Road'), Motorhead ('Heartbreaker') and Anthrax (cover of Black Sabbath's 'Neon Knights' from the Dio tribute album).

The award was handed out during the pre-telecast ceremony that is not televised. Other early rock awards went to Jack White for Best Rock Performance ('Lazaretto'); Paramore for Best Rock Song ('Ain't It Fun'); and Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament and others for Best Packaging ('Lightning Bolt').

The Grammy Awards airs at 8PM ET tonight on CBS. Look for a performance from AC/DC, but other than that, don't expect much hard rock or metal represented on the show. See the running list of winners here.
