There isn't any denying it, Portland is a dog loving city. Whether your walking the back cove, checking out one of the various dog parks or enjoying some relaxation at a dog friendly beach, Portland is a place that loves its pooches. But there's more than as it turns out, here's 5 events that are dog-centric and might be a chance to have a little more quality time with your furry best friend.

  • BARK IN THE PARK

The Portland Sea Dogs and Planet Dog invite you and your dogs to take in a baseball game at Hadlock Field and if they're/you're up for it, you can also take part in a pre game parade led by Slugger the Sea Dog. Two chances to take part in this, July 16th and August 26th.

  • MARTINIS FOR MUTTS

Don't worry, this isn't a drinking event exclusive for dogs. Instead, it's a chance for you to indulge in a happy hour-like party hosted by HappyME and the Animal Refuge League. Sip cocktails and make some new dog friends and if you get too tipsy, you can feel free to stay overnight at the Regency in Portland's Old Port. They have some dog-friendly rooms! The event takes place August 24th.

  • WOOFMINSTER

Planet Dog is pulling out all the stops and throwing a carnival to celebrate your canine friends at Deering Oaks Park. Their 11th annual Woofminster is a chance for the entire family to come together for food, fun, games and wild events like the 50 paw dash! This years version is set to take place on September 11th.

  • ALES FOR TAILS

The Animal Refuge League throws this annual fall bash that brings together pooches and people for a day of activities and fun. There's beer tastings, delicious food and another chance to make new friends. Oh and incredible views as well, as this event takes place at Thompson's Point. It scheduled this year for October 8th.

  • THE BAYSIDE 5K9

A tongue in-cheek tip of the cap to those hardcore runners, the Bayside 5k9 is a fun "race" through Portland's beautifully established trails. You won't be running alone though, its a tandem race with your favorite leashed friend. The wild card for this event, costumes are encouraged. This event is schedule for November 6th.
