Burt Shavitz , who helped create the popular company Burt's Bees in 1984, passed away over the weekend at age 80.

According to the Associated Press, Shavitz passed away due to respiratory complications. His company's website posted this yesterday:

"Burt Shavitz, our co-founder and namesake, has left for greener fields and wilder woods. We remember him as a bearded, free-spirited Maine man, a beekeeper, a wisecracker, a lover of golden retrievers and his land. Above all, he taught us to never lose sight of our relationship with nature."

The company is asking for friends and fans of Burt to share their memories through social media using #BurtLivesOn.
