It's just about that time of year! Food, fun, and a chance to honor our nation's independence. Here's a collection of festivals and events (including fireworks shows) across many cities and towns in Southern Maine. Cross your fingers for no rain!

 

PORTLAND

The annual Stars and Stripes Spectacular in Portland has an entire evening of activities for you to enjoy. Opening ceremonies are at 7 p.m., a Pops concert starts at 7:40 p.m. with the Portland Symphony Orchestra and special guests. Fans of fireworks will gather around the Eastern Promenade at 9:15 p.m. for an amazing show.

LEWISTON/AUBURN

Lewiston/Auburn is hosting the 20th annual Liberty Festival on the banks of the Androscoggin River. In 2016, the event will take place over the course of 3 days. culminating in the finale on Monday, July 4th. There will be entertainment and food kicking off at 6 p.m. as well as a fireworks display scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Check out additional details right here.

 

OLD ORCHARD BEACH

Old Orchard Beach loves Independence Day so much, they're planning on celebrating twice. If you're a fireworks fan, you won't want to miss this. There is always full days of fun and excitement surrounding OOB, but there will be fireworks displays both Sunday, July 3rd as well as Monday, July 4th. Both are scheduled for 9:45 p.m.

 

BIDDEFORD

A fireworks display is planned Biddeford Pool Community Center on Monday, July 4th scheduled at 9 p.m. Residents and visitors can find the community center at 109 Marsh Stretch Road.

 

FREEPORT

July 4th will be the kickoff to L.L. Bean's Summer In The Park Celebration, which are free concerts at their Discovery Park. On July 4th, there will be a parade on Main St. followed by a concert by the Mallett Brothers Band. There is also a fireworks display scheduled at 9 p.m. at 6 Snow Road.

 

SANFORD

A fireworks display is planned earlier than other towns for Sanford. The public can enjoy that display at dusk on Sunday evening, July 3rd at dusk. The display will take place at Number 1 Pond. A parade and other activities are planned for the daytime on July 4th.

 

BRUNSWICK

The town of Brunswick invites families to participate in traditional races and games on Monday July, 4th from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The fun will include Relay Games, 3-Legged Races, a Pie Eating Contest, Wheelbarrow Races, Sack Races and a Watermelon Eating Contest.

 

SCARBOROUGH

The town of Scarborough is celebrating Independence Day early with a fireworks celebration visible at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 3rd. Fireworks are set to begin at 9 p.m.
