You may notice from time to time when using Uber, the rates may seem a little high. Well Northeastern University in Boston got their feet wet and did a little research. It appears that the majority of the time the trick is to simply wait a few minutes. They found that 40% of the surge periods last under five miniutes, and that 70% last under ten.

The surge pricing is quite simple. It's a game of supply and demand. For example, looking for an Uber at 1am on Halloween night in the Old Port may have been a little pricey. At 2am on a regular weekday (if you can even find one) is likely to be pretty cheap.

What did we learn? If you're in a hurry, sucks to be you and it likely won't cost you more than a couple of extra dollars. Not in a hurry? Be patient and check back!
