Amtrak has announced that the Downeaster passenger rail service will add more trips on its regular schedule to stations north of Portland, including Freeport and Brunswick.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the rail service already makes five round trips a day from Portland to Boston, and three of them also make stops in Freeport and Brunswick. This new addition will increase trips to Freeport and Brunswick to five per day, and one more trip will also be added on the weekends.

The service hopes that more people in the metro Portland area will take the train to Boston for shows and sporting events, and that people from Massachusetts will take the train to Maine for a "quick adventure" that doesn't include miles of backed up traffic.
