Warner Bros. Sets 2017 Release Dates for Stephen King’s ‘It’ and ‘CHiPs’
Warner Bros. has announced release dates for two of their upcoming adaptations / reboots, adding both films — along with an untitled mystery project — to their 2017 slate. First up is CHiPs, Dax Shepard’s new action-comedy based on the classic ’80s TV series, starring Shepard and Michael Peña in the leading roles. Next is It, the long-developing and slightly-delayed adaptation of Stephen King’s beloved horror novel, which became the subject of some minor controversy following director Cary Fukunaga’s departure.
‘Warcraft’ Trailer: Fight Together, Die Together
If you found yourself a little underwhelmed by the previous Warcraft trailer, the latest one is definitely more action-centric, offering plenty of new footage and lots of that crazy fantastical magic-and-creatures-and-orcs business that made the original game series so popular. And if that doesn’t sound like your cup of mead or whatever, then this new trailer probably won’t sway you.
New Movie Releases: May 2016
By now you have the release date for Captain America: Civil War tattooed on your brain, but — shocker! — there are other movies hitting theaters next month, believe it or not. In addition to Marvel's latest, we also have a new film from Shane Black, the sequel to Neighbors and, lest you forget, X-Men: Apocalypse. There's plenty more in our guide to May's new movie releases.
‘Jason Bourne’ Teasers Reveal New Footage, Trailer Premiere Date
Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass previously swore not to return to the Bourne franchise unless they had a really good idea for another chapter. Nine years later, they’re back with a sequel, simply titled Jason Bourne. Two teasers have arrived online, offering some new footage and revealing the premiere date for the next trailer. Thankfully, you won’t have to wait long for that trailer to deliver on the promise of these teasers.
SNL Delivers a Brilliantly Goofy Satire of Faith-Based Dramas With ‘God Is a Boob Man’
Maybe a better title for this fake trailer for a fake faith-based drama would be God's Not Gay, but you can see how that one might have been a bit too risky. In the one sketch that didn't feature guest host Julia Louis-Dreyfus, SNL offers this hilariously silly satire of movies like God's Not Dead (okay, mostly just that movie alone), complete with Lifetime Original movie production values and melodramatic courtroom scenes.
‘Deadpool 2’ Gets Official Confirmation With Ryan Reynolds and Director Tim Miller Returning
Three days before Deadpool even hit theaters, word got around that Fox was already developing a sequel with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returning. Since then we’ve heard a lot about what to expect from the sequel (Cable, mostly) despite the fact that Fox had yet to make an official announcement. That changed today at CinemaCon, of course, where the studio made it all very officially official, confirming the return of both Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller for Deadpool 2.
Shane Black Talks ‘The Predator’ Setting, ‘Looking Into’ Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Return
Shane Black’s new Predator movie has a tentative 2018 release date, and while we’ve been promised that it will “reinvent the franchise,” not much is known about the sequel to the classic action sci-fi flick. The Nice Guy director is currently scripting The Predator with Fred Dekker, and has shed a little light (though not too much) on what we can expect, including when the film takes place and if there’s any hope of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return.
Warner Bros. Confirms Ben Affleck’s Solo Batman Movie to the Surprise of No One
When Ben Affleck took the stage at Comic-Con last year to promote Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it was a mere matter of minutes before rumors began circulating that Warner Bros. was planning a new solo Batman film with Affleck set to star — and possibly direct. DC’s Geoff Johns confirmed that he was working on a script with Affleck, and since then the news has basically been repeatedly confirmed via interviews with Zack Snyder, Johns and Affleck. And now WB has gone and made it officially official by announcing that a standalone Batman film is in development with Affleck. But we already knew that.
‘Deadpool’ Writers Explain What Makes Cable Perfect for the Sequel
Three days before Deadpool even hit theaters, 20th Century Fox had already reportedly greenlit a sequel to the Merc With a Mouth’s debut solo outing. The studio had every right to be confident, as Deadpool went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated film worldwide and Fox’s highest-grossing X-Men film to date. Fox hasn’t officially announced Deadpool 2 just yet, but we do know that it’s happening and that X-Force’s Cable will appear in the film. Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have a few details about the sequel, including what makes Cable so special.
‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Rumored as Warner Bros. 2017 Mystery Film
Last week was a pretty busy one over at Warner Bros. — following the underwhelming box office and reactions to Batman v Superman, the studio is reportedly doubling down on its established blockbuster franchises and scaling back on the number of films released each year. They also set release dates for a few untitled projects, with many speculating that at least one of them is Ben Affleck’s solo Batman film. According to a new rumor, we may know what one of the other films could be.
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Tops 2016 MTV Movie Awards Winners
Although the 2016 MTV Movie Awards won’t air until tonight, the awards actually took place on Saturday night, April 9, and we have the full list of nominees and winners — you know, just in case you’re feeling particularly antsy or won’t be around to watch the awards because you have actual plans (like watching Vinyl, or something). Unsurprisingly, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was (or is?) the big winner of this year’s awards, but Deadpool also pulled in a couple of golden popcorn trophies.
Speedy Gonzales Movie to Give the ‘Looney Tunes’ Star a Robin Hood Origin Story
Speedy Gonzales might not be the first Looney Tunes character that comes to mind when you think of possible solo film spinoffs, but the lovable animated mouse is indeed getting his very own big screen outing. Why now? Why Speedy? According to the press release, the existence of Donald Trump makes Speedy and his diverse appeal more important than ever.
‘Batman vs. Superman’ Breaks a Bunch of Opening Records With $424 Million Worldwide
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had quite the weekend — not only did it break the March opening record previously held by The Hunger Games, but with $424 million worldwide, Zack Snyder’s epic now boasts the highest opening weekend for a Warner Bros. superhero movie. All those negative reviews predictably had zero effect on audiences, who flocked to see the long-awaited showdown between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel.
Wonder Woman Is the Biggest Reason People Want to See ‘Batman vs. Superman’
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It's right there in the title: Batman fighting Superman is the titular attraction (and also maybe some justice?), and yet according to a new survey, Wonder Woman is the part of the film audiences are looking forward to the most. Gal Gadot's debut as the iconic superhero ranked highest in the poll, with Jesse Eisenberg's wacky take on Lex Luthor coming in second.
‘Batman vs. Superman’ Breaks Fandango’s Superhero Movie Pre-Sale Record
It’ll be several more days before we find out if Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice managed to break any box office records (early predictions suggest it might not), but Zack Snyder’s superhero epic has already broke at least one record: the film now holds the record for highest ticketing pre-sales…at Fandango, anyway.
What’s Expiring From Netflix Instant: April 2016
We lucked out this month when only a handful of titles expired from Netflix, but even more (lots more) movies and TV shows are leaving the service next month, including favorites like The Professional, Let the Right One In and M*A*S*H (the series). Read on for our guide to what’s expiring from Netflix Instant in April.
