Had a great time Sunday at the 2015 Portland Comic Con. Check out what I saw and check out the people who love comics, graphic novels, collectables and being someone else for the day!

I have some comics from when I was younger. Some cool ones; Superman, Spiderman, Star Wars, The Last Starfighter. You know the cool superhero and movie ones. But I also had some kooky and funny ones like the Three Stooges, Archie, Get Smart, etc. I was never a major collector. Still not. Music mostly and movies are my thing. (I like some music and movie related bobbleheads too).

Usually at comic cons I usually look for movie related posters, certain collectables and prints of artwork or animation I admire. Other than that, this event wasn't necessarily for me fan wise, but I'm a collector and extremely passionate about the things I love like records and music; so this does speak to me and I love that people come out to support it and show their colors. I fully support collector events like these because with all the gadgets and new crap in our lives I think it's great people find a way to retreat to the things they have always loved. Things that may be simple. Things that maybe be old school. I believe as we move on in life; record, comic, baseball card collector events will get bigger EVERY YEAR that we've moved further away due to modern times.

Always stay close to the things that make you happy.

Our good friends at the legendary Casablanca Comics hosted this Portland Comic Expo at the Expo. Man, this place was ROCKING. Busy non-stop. They had vendors and artists selling comics, prints, posters, collectables, video games, etc. They had special guests like animators and authors of various comics and graphic novels too. It was fun for fans and families and many of them dressed up for the occasion too!

So this was WAY cool. Crazy to think but 20 years ago when I lived in Windham and worked at Bull Moose, I was friends with this dude who was part of the local music scene back then. Shout to all the music dudes in the Windham area back then (Rotors To Rust, BeeBoos, Sipping Nectar, Slipnot, yes before the one you know, etc.)

Since then, this talented guy has made a huge name for himself in the world of graphic design and visual arts. He's done work for bands, record labels and MTV, etc. I'm so happy and proud of him. Have not seen him in exactly 20 years. But when you see an old friend, it takes a mili-second to recognize and it's 1995 all over again.

Hi name? Oh, you can call him Scarecow Oven cause that's the name of his work. (I call him Dave myself, but whatever). I walked up on him yesterday and what a surpsise that was for me. It was also an honor to buy a nice sized print from him. I was so psyched to buy some of his work. All the effort and ideas and creation he's had over those 20 years. It's come to this and I got to own something of it. That's cool. Check this amazing piece out that I bought!! This is called "Southern Cross".

They had some sweet old school comics for sale too. Rare and special stuff. Prices that let you know, this is some serious business. But when you find something you've been searching for, something that will make you happy and your collection better - it's tough to pass up, no matter what the price is! We love what we love!

Rick Parker, formerly of Marvel Comics was the guy who drew the Beavis & Butthead comic book series. He was a great chat and brought some copies of the comics to sign for collectors for a pretty fair price too!  Next to him was Paul Ryan who's worked for Marvel and DC. His current work is the Phantom newspaper strip. His past work has include runs with Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Fantastic Four, Iron Man and Flash.

Cheers tor our friends from Casablanca Comics for hosting this year's Expo and for continuing to support things that people really love and can't live without. They are a collectors friend for sure. I love their passion for comics and collectables.

The Maine Ghostbusters were on hand and they were the big hit of the day as far as I could see. EVERYONE wanted to take a picture with them, outside and inside.

The past year, for all of their paid appearances or from any fee they've collected, The Maine Ghostbusters have put that money aside for the Markathon benefit. That is just unreal kindness. As we start this year's Markathon we'll already be up $1,000 due to these great people. If you have a quick minute, follow them on Facebook and thank them for us RIGHT HERE. They bring the fun & they bring a lot of heart to every visit.
