Beachgoers in Lubec, Maine did everything they could to save a beached shark that washed ashore Wednesday morning.

According to the Bangor Daily News, beachgoers in Lubec, Maine couldn't help but notice a 30 foot basking shark in need of serious help Wednesday morning in the small town. Mark Olson, the man who shared his amazing video with various news stations in the area, said that many people began grabbing buckets and pouring water over the shark in need.

Witnesses contacted the Maine Marine Patrol but a spokesperson for that organization said Wednesday afternoon that the Marine Patrol "typically doesn't respond to those type of things".

Despite the efforts of the beachgoers, the basking shark died. It was an unhappy ending to an amazing effort of humans springing to action to save an animal in need.
