Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara has a tear in the PCL of his left knee. That's the bad news. The good news is he will not need surgery.

The injury to Chara  happen with about eight minutes left in the first period in last night's 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders.

The PCL(posterior cruciate ligament) is located in the back of the knee.

GM Peter Chiarelli says the timetable to get back is somewhere between 4 and 6 weeks.

The B's are already short on defensemen with Kevan Miller out with a shoulder injury, and of course, the team traded Johnny Boychuck to the Isles before the seasons started.
