Paper or plastic? After we answer, they do their magic! Today I saw the best of the best of the baggers Hannaford has to offer!

Grocery time! It comes at least once or twice a month depending on the size of your household. I enjoy the time myself. I grab a cart, walk around to the easy listening soundtrack of America or Carly Simon pumping through the speakers and get what I need with ease. (long as I go at like on Sunday nights at 7pm) Milk, eggs, bread, maybe some Kleenex and some of those Bachman Pretzel Rods too! And hey, plenty of ice cream! For cyring out loud, DON'T EVER FORGET THE ICE CREAM! (sorry my lactose intolerant friends out there. It's a crucial item.)

Eventually, you're asked "paper or plastic?" After we answer, those folks at the end of the register do their magic! Well, today I saw the best of the best of the baggers Hannaford has to offer! It was the final round of their yearly bagging contest in Southern Maine. In total, seventeen stores sent their fastest hands and sharpest minds to do battle. I went to support my good friend Greg Silva!

Greg has been a good friend of mine for some years now. Hannaford has been lucky to have had Greg work for them for 25 years! Unreal loyalty. If you've been to Greg's store in Scarborough, you know him well. If you've been to a concert recently chances are you know Greg too as he's a concert going machine!

So Greg won the bagging contest at his store in Scarborough a week or so ago. That sent him to the next round which was today at the Hannaford's in West Falmouth; a place I never knew existed. Not the Hannaford in West Falmouth. WEST FALMOUTH. Had no clue there was a West, Falmouth. I was driving up and down Route 1 Falmouth looking for it only to find out it is over near the Maine Turnpike. Felt like I was heading to North Conway or Rangeley for a minute. This lapse in GPS thinking made me miss Greg's round unfortunately. But him and his mom were psyched that I came by to show support! We stuck around and watched as the battle continued!

These folks mean business! Sort of. They're just having a blast most importantly. Everyone there was so fun to be around and having a great time. This employee contest brought together baggers from all over and showed great company pride. We got to the later rounds and the comp got tougher!

Crazy right? Cans of food and bottles of tomato sauce flying here and there. Eggs being handled ever so gently in the other hand. What balance! In the end though, there can only be one winner and that superhero was Jen from Gorham! Jen will now travel to NH for a shot at a trip to Vegas baby, Vegas!

That's your winner Jen from Gorham to the left, girl in the middle is from Westbrook and the one on the right I believe was from Standish. (I think I got that right)

So Greg didn't win the whole thing, but we assured him he was one of the best! Heck, he's the best bagger in Scarborough and that should be good enough for some cool points back at his store. I know they're all super proud of him there. I certainly am as a friend.

Also, I was just really impressed to see so many bags flying around and no one needed to cough up a nickle! (heh, rim shot, please...)
