Having just moved to Maine, I have yet to try a whoopie pie - but I sense it's in my near future.

The Forecaster reports that the owners of three local businesses are combining forces to open a coffee bar and gourmet whoopie pie shop on Cottage Road in South Portland.

The newspaper reports that come spring, what used to be the Cherished Possessions consignment shop will transform into a coffee bar for cold brew and hot coffee, and commercial kitchen space for gourmet whoopie pie crafting. According to the Forecaster, Ben Graffius and Tom Marlow of White Cap Coffee, and Mike Mwenedata and Nick Mazuroski of Rwanda Bean Coffee will combine forces with Marcia Wiggins of Cape Whoopies to unfurl this one-stop shop for coffee and dessert lovers alike. The hotspot doesn't have a name yet, but Marcia (the whoopie pie officianado) is reportedly lobbying for “Coffee Guys and Whoopie Pies” to encompass all aspects of the business and those involved.

The group will be launching a Kickstarter campaign this February to help with miscellaneous costs of starting the businesses, projected to be about $30,000, according to the newspaper. The building renovation will cost about $100,000, according to the Forecaster.
