Hot on the heels of the release of their new album Kintsugi, Death Cab for Cutie performed two cuts off the disc for a sizable outdoor crowd on last night's (April 1) episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. For those who have yet to see Death Cab in 2015, the two songs give fans a taste of what to expect now that founding guitarist and longtime in-house producer Chris Walla is no longer in the group.

On the ultra low-key "Black Sun" (which you can watch above) -- a brave choice to perform in front of an outdoor audience -- the band played the restraint card perfectly, even when lead guitarist Dave Depper exploded with a solo towards the end of the song. Meanwhile, the second performance, "No Room in Frame" (below), highlighted the contributions of impeccably-dressed keyboardist Zac Rae. Anchored by remaining members Ben Gibbard, Jason McGerr and Nick Harmer, the "new" Death Cab lineup showcased a distinct ability to strike a balance between fullness and moderation.

Death Cab for Cutie hit the road very soon; you can find their full tour itinerary -- including gigs at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium and New York City's Madison Square Garden -- here.
