According to the Sun Journal, the Oxford County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday in a news conference that former WCSH 6 meteorologist Tom Johnston was the sole suspect in a sexual assault case that took place in Newry before he committed suicide.

Johnston had been reporting live in Newry at the Sunday River Resort for WCSH that weekend. The alleged sexual assault was reported on April 2.

Johnston had apparently cut his wrists in a suicide attempt but actually died of hypothermia, the newspaper reported. He was found in Auburn, where he technically resided. Johnston was 46 years old at the time of his death.

The victim in this case has not been identified.
