Anytime you hear that the city of Portland is preparing to close a major artery for multiple weeks, you can hear the screams and cries from commuters in the distance. But, as it turns out, that's exactly what Portland plans to do. According to the Portland Press Herald, the city will close State St for 3 weeks from approximately 7am to 6pm Monday through Friday with some additional weekend closures expected.

Drivers are being encouraged to find alternate routes off of Interstate 295 or by using Park Ave. State St serves as a major artery to downtown Portland as well as access to the Million Dollar Bridge heading over to South Portland.

The road closures will allow the city to upgrade water mains, sewer lines and and storm drains. It was also send about 1,000 drivers per hour into a mass frenzy. Good luck.
