According to ABC in Australia, Gorillaz, a cartoon pop side project for Albarn hasn't released a full-length album since 2011's The Singles Collection, which did not produce a hit single or significant commercial success. Albarn announced after that album that he no longer saw a future for Gorillaz and ended up recording new music with his other band Blur, for the first time in 12 years.

Hints of a new Gorillaz album came months ago though, as co-creator of the band, Jamie Hewlett, released new artwork through his instagram account that suggested a reunion.

Gorillaz will hit the studio in September to record all new material and hope to have a new single released early in 2016.
