Each and every year, airports across the country are awarded for excellence by Airports Council International, the trade association of the world's airports. ACI gives out awards for outstanding customer experience, which includes restaurants, shopping, spas, and security efficiency. The awards are given out based on actual customer experience, as ACI surveyed more than half a million people in 2015.

According to CNBC, the Portland International Jetport rated #1 in the category of airports that serve 2 million customers or less per year in North America. Portland received terrific ratings when it came to cleanliness, courteous staff, as well as check-in efficiency. For a jetport that underwent a significant expansion over the past 12-24  months, winning the award is validation that the renovation is worth it.

The #1 large airport in the United States was Indianapolis International for the 4th straight year. That airport has several fan favorite local restaurants, a gigantic solar farm for visitors to explore as well as a roaming customer service robot that can answer simple questions. Maybe someday Portland will be able to compete with that!
