If you're a young CYY freak or someone unaware of The Tubes; you should be aware! They were one of the most wacked out, original, unique "alternative" bands before the word really existed.

Most people know their tune, "She's a Beauty" from any half decent 80's compilations, but that wasn't even the tip of the iceberg as to who The Tubes were. Not even a paperthin shaving off the tip of the iceberg.

The Tubes did whatever they wanted and they didn't care about the ramifications or the concerns. They were one of the most "punk" non-punk bands ever. They hired strippers to dance on stage at their shows, they had explosions on stage, sexy happenings, drugs, vomiting, cheerleaders, not much clothing sometimes, 12 inch platform shoes, big props and they jammed out with all kinds of characters. Over the top and never following the norm. There was NO norm to The Tubes. They were Broadway Bowie Burlesque Rock. Simple as that! (if you can picture it)

This Friday night 7/18 The Tubes (with 4 original members) return to Portland for the first time since 198... something. It's been a while. The Tubes live are ALWAYS something special to see as you'll notice below.

Tonight 7/17/ on Spinout at 8pm, I'll talk with frontman Fee Waybill about The Tubes. I'll also have a special giveaway if you're a real Tubes fan. Til then, eye these music clips.

If this first documentary trailer doesn't get you interested in the Tubes, you might need to check your pulse.

One of my favorite songs of the 80's.
