Last week, we all began to hear the whispers of a monster Nor'Easter developing, with a chance that it could smash us with significant amounts of snow later this week. Meteorologists have continue to track the path of the storm and while the snowfall amounts don't appear to be devastating in the forecasts, the wind gusts are quite alarming.

Todd Gutner from WCSH-6 shared his initial forecast for potential wind gusts, some of which could sustain at time. Most of the state of Maine will see wind gusts upwards of 40 mph, while some parts of downeast Maine could see 50 and above. The impacts of those gusts could be life threatening, due to potential power outages mixed with snowfall. Difficulty in repairing those lines quickly is a very real possibility.

So where does this leave us all? First off, it's important to have a game plan. Here are a few tips:

  • If you live in an apartment or home without access to a generator or wood stove, be prepared to seek shelter if the power goes out and isn't restored within a few hours.
  • DON'T FORGET ABOUT YOUR PETS. Your pets are just as vulnerable to the bitterly cold temperatures as you are, and need to be taken care.
  • If you're going to stick it out, it's important to have extra blankets, candles and flashlights readily available. Additionally, be extra careful running space heaters or other devices via battery.

This storm is still too far away to fully forecast all of its potential dangers. Make sure to keep an eye on the news and social media for the last updates in the 48 hours.
