Is Henry Owens Ready for ‘The Show?’ [POLL]
Henry Owens continues to light it up in the Boston Red Sox minor league system after 6.2 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in his Triple A debut with the Pawtucket Red Sox on Monday night to secure a 5-0 win over the Columbus Clippers, according to the team’s web site.
Owens was impressive and gave up just two hits and three walks. He also struck out nine while throwing 100 pitches, 70 of them for strikes. The 22-year-old lefty was promoted from the Portland Sea Dogs after going 14-4 with a 2.60 ERA in 20 starts.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox just traded away their former ace Jon Lester and John Lackey, leaving Clay Buchholz as the team’s front line starter and he has not been that effective lately. The Red Sox have already called up several Pawtucket Red Sox players as they continue to search for ways to win some games in 2014. Owens may be the most exciting pitcher to come out of the Red Sox system since Roger Clemens way back in 1985. Has his time come for a Major League debut?
