News Center Maine announced today that Maine native and 6-year sportscaster with News Center Maine, is the first female to be named Maine's Sportscaster of the Year for 2018.

The history of sportscasters at News Center Maine, for most Mainers, has involved very little change. The late Bruce Glasier was the man that most of us grew up watching as sportscaster. Then there was Lee Goldberg before he moved on to co-anchor News Center Now, followed by Johnny Mehler and since 2013, it's been Jessica Gagne.

The National Sports Media Association made the announcement that Jessica won the award making her the first female to do so in Maine. Both Glasier, Goldberg and Bill Green, when he was sportscaster at WLBZ 2 in Bangor, have won the word.

Jessica is the first female to win though, which is a big deal for a position in broadcasting that only until recently was mostly held by men. The icing on the cake for us is that she's been a Mainer all her life, graduating from Biddeford High School in 2005.

Congratulations Jessica!
