Liam Gallagher Said to Be ‘Making Progress’ on Solo Album

A few months after signing a record deal, Liam Gallagher’s solo career has taken the next step. He signed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell, and it’s being reported that he’s “making progress” on his first solo album.

“I am so pleased to be able to welcome Liam to the Warner/Chappell family,” said Mike Smith of Warner/Chappell Music U.K., as noted by Billboard. “He is one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll stars that this country has ever produced. It is thrilling to see him develop as a writer and these songs will take him to new levels of success and recognition.”

Gallagher signed with Warner Bros., a sister company of Warner/Chappell, with the intention of putting out his first record under his own name after having spent his career fronting Oasis and Beady Eye. He’d long resisted the idea of being a traditional solo artist, and, even when discussing the work, he was reticent to define himself in those terms.

“I am not embarking on a solo ‘career’,” he said back in August. “Everyone should know that. There are just 10, 11 songs I’ve written that are eligible to be recorded. They’ve got flair, attitude, the melodies are sick and the words are f—ing funny. We’ll record them this year and release it next year.”

Earlier this week, it was learned that Gallagher will be among the 100 artists taking part in Give a Gig Week, a series of benefit concerts held throughout London to benefit Youth Music, a charity that helps underserved children make music. The show, which will be held at some point from March 24-31, 2017, is his first announced solo performance.
