Big box stores continue to struggle nationwide, with more and more closures of brand name stores that people have shopped at for decades. K-Mart is no exception, and a recent announcement by K-Mart's parent company, Sears, that more stores would be closing left customers and employees at Maine's locations worried about the future.

According to MaineBiz, Mainers don't need to worry any longer. All four of Maine's K-Mart locations in Auburn, Augusta, Waterville and Madawaska will remain open for the foreseeable future.

Sears admitted that keeping all locations of K-Mart open continues to be a challenge, with increased competition from online retailers. Sears and K-Mart locations continue to operate in areas where brand loyalty remains high and online shopping volume is stagnant.
