UMaine freshman goalie Rob McGovern made his college debut a memorable one, stopping 44 shots. Nolan Vesey scored a shootout goal and the Black Bears had their second straight tie (1-1) and shootout win.

In the eyes of the NCAA, this game is a 1-1 tie, same as Friday night's tie (shootout win) over MIchigan State.

North Dakota is Ice Breaker Tourney champ because of its 1-0-1 record while Maine finishes 0-0-2.

McGovern gave up an early powerplay goal and about seven minutes later Maine's Cam Brown scored a powerplay goal to tie it 1-1.

The rest of the night belonged to McGovern as North Dakota out shot the Black Bears 45-20 through 65 minutes of play.

Tournament rules call for a shootout to determine a winner. McGovern stopped two shots, Vesey scored the winner against UND goalie Cam Johnson.

Attendance in the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland was 5,187.

The Bears take to the road next weekend to play Union for a weekend series.

NOTE: Maine plays at Alfond Arena in Orono on October 23rd but the Bears do not play a countable game at home until November 15th against UMass Lowell.
