Recently I talked with someone about a classic 80's movie. It's a comedy classic and when it comes to beer, it might be THE most classic. This person had no clue about these guys or the movie. So for that person and any of you other 9 year olds out there.....

First off... If you like the brew - good, strange or otherwise; you should be sure you make it to our Portland on Tap Event at the end of the month. This is the biggest beer event of the year. We know so cause its being held at the CIVIC CENTER!!! Two sessions with over 100 Brews from all around the country on Jan 30th @ the Cross Insurance Area. Tickets are going fast so don't delay!

So, SCTV was the Canadian version of America's Saturday Nite Live. When SCTV hit American Television in 1980, one of the first concept bits were two beer loving/living brothers from the "great white north". They really didn't do much. Eat donuts, watch hockey, make fun of each other and drink beer. Here's a taste of their early days....

Those skits featuring Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas, who played Bob & Doug McKenze took off big time. So much that they scored a movie deal. In 1983 Strange Brew debuted to.. meh success. Over time and thanks to the VHS format (and eventually the Laser disc, then DVD upgrade) the movie has become a cult classic. It's stupid, dumb, 80's humor and so friggin great. Bob and Doug own the movie. The scenes they aren't in, you want them in. They bring the funny... the stupid, the dumb, etc. One watch and you know it.

Haven't seen it? Maybe check it out with a brew or two you hoser!
