For Mainers who have pined for a Microsoft store to call their own, a pop up retail shop is set to open at the Maine Mall this Saturday less than 100 yards from the Apple store, according to WinBeta.

The software industry blog that reports on Microsoft news noted the Maine Mall in South Portland is one of several locations where the software giant is creating pop up stores close to existing Apple stores to provide direct competition. WinBeta reported that when Microsoft employees open their new location on Saturday, they will be selling Surface RT 32GB for $199 and an 8-inch Dell Venue Pro for $99 among other items.

Store manager Dan Wigley said the new store will remain open "as long as it takes," which could translate into several months or lead to a permanent location in the mall if consumer demand warrants it. When asked about his store's relationship with the Apple retail store, Wigley said it has been friendly and both stores are pleased Windows and Mac customers have more options to get service.
