Nationalparkstraveler.com recently posted some survey results that suggests that roughly two-thirds of voters are in favor of the creation of a new national park that abuts Baxter State Park. The land for the new park would be donated by Roxanne Quimby, who has made a fortune from the Burt's Bees brand, and would allow for scenic views of Mount Katahdin, access to the Appalachian Trail as well as the ability to use a portion of the Penobscot River for recreational use. The vision of the park would include more land to hunt, fish and potentially snowmobile as well. The new national park would allow for more camping and more of Maine's wooded area and riverbanks to be kept safe for recreational and wildlife uses.

The points of contention against the new national park seem to be the level of the federal government's inclusion into protecting and maintaining the park. Additionally, how much of this land being protected affect various Maine industries?

What do you think? Should Mainers support a brand new National Park?
