Listen to Snippets of Two New Weezer Songs
After releasing three albums in a span of 15 months back in 2008-10, Weezer have laid pretty low. In fact, we haven’t heard much from them since 2010’s ‘Hurley.’
For the past few months the band has been posting videos on its website that show what’s been going on. Mostly, though, they’ve been farts, not really revealing much about the group or its upcoming projects.
But things are starting to pick up on that front, with two recent posts including significant chunks of new music. Above, you can hear the latest, ‘Ain’t Got Nobody,’ which sounds very Weezery with its chunky guitars, buzzing vocals and chewy pop hook.
The other taste, ‘The Waste Land,’ is a bit more somber-sounding, with guitars coming on like a funeral march. It’s not nearly as fun as ‘Ain’t Got Nobody,’ and there’s no vocals to really pull us in. You can check out that one below.
Both tracks presumably will be on Weezer’s upcoming album, their ninth, which will be out, hopefully, sometime before the end of the year.
The band is recording the still-untitled record with producer Ric Ocasek, who not only fronted the Cars (a direct inspiration on Weezer’s power-pop nuggets) but steered two of Wezeer’s greatest works, their 1994 Blue Album debut and 2001’s comeback Green Album.
