It was about a month ago that Palace Playland Amusement Park began demolition of the famous Galaxy rollercoaster. The excavator stood at the ready to begin tearing up the parking lot and dismantling the classic coaster in preparation for a newer, fancier attraction.

Now the coaster is in a pile of metal and rubble with just a few sections of twisted track still standing. The sight is unsettling and sad for fans of the original Galaxy coaster. It seems even more spooky with the now deserted summer resort town of Old Orchard Beach as the backdrop.

According to WCSH 6, the classic coaster will be replaced with an Italian roller coaster called The Sea Viper. It's part of a $4 Million expansion at Palace Playland.
