Patriots Trade For Saints DL Hicks

For the second time during their bye week the New England Patriots have made a trade that will help to add depth to their defense and in particular the defensive line.The Pats have shipped fourth string tight end Michael Hoomanawanui to the New Orleans in exchange for defensive tackle Akiem Hicks. The agent for Hicks confirmed the deal while his client was participating in Saints practice on Wednesday.

In 4 seasons with the Pats Hooman had 20 receptions for 289 yards and a touchdown. He slipped on the depth chart this season with the additions of Scott Chandler in the off-season and recently acquired Michael Williams who played in from of Hooman in the Jacksonville blowout win.

Hicks is a former third round draft pick who found himself in a rotation for the Saints as they tried to find more production from their defensive line. The 6-5 324 pound Hicks has just 2 tackles in three games this season. His best year came in 2013 when he racked up 56 tackles and4.5 sacks.

The Pats continue their bye week before playing the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday the 11th.
