Pearl Jam Take on ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

A couple of Pearl Jam members have gotten in on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The movement has gone viral with athletes, musicians and everyday people dumping buckets of ice on themselves to bring attention and rally donations for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, better known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.”

For those unfamiliar, the Ice Bucket Challenge began as a tribute to ALS activist Pete Frates, a former baseball player currently suffering from ALS. The idea is for those taking part to reveal who challenged them, name out who they would like to challenge and then to make a donation for ALS research within 24 hours of taking the challenge.

Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready was challenged by former New Orleans Saints football player Steve Gleason, a longtime friend of the band who himself is suffering from ALS. McCready stepped up to the challenge, calling out his Pearl Jam bandmates, as well as Duff McKagan and Ben Hagerty (aka Macklemore), among others, before stepping on a skateboard and being doused.

Duff McKagan initially tweeted his support, but a video has yet to surface of his participation. However, Eddie Vedder accepted McCready’s challenge and called out Bruce Springsteen, actor Tim Robbins and used his daughter’s suggestion to ask One Direction‘s Niall Horan to take part.

Check out Vedder’s video above, while McCready’s clip can be seen below. For more on the Ice Bucket Challenge, check out the ALS Association website here.

Update: Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard also have taken part in the ALS Ice Bucket challenge, posting their videos today. See their clips below, as well.
