Two very bad pitches - one by Drew Pomeranz and one by Clay Buchholz. The result, a 4-3 Tampa Bay win over the Red Sox and a chance to get closer to first place goes by the board.

Pomeranz pitched very well, going 6.2 innings but then hung a curveball to number nine hitter Luke Maile and he drilled a two-run homer to tied the game at 3-3.

Then Clay Buchholz entered in the 8th inning. He left a pitch up in the zone and Evan Longoria hit the pitch out of the park to give the Rays a 4-3.

A 9th inning rally by the Sox ended when pinch hitter Sandy Leon took three straight strikes to end the game with two Sox runners on base.

The Sox(73-59) stay two games behind the Blue Jays for the AL East lead with 30 games to play. The Jays lost to Baltimore 5-3.

The series finale for the Sox against Tampa Bay today starts at 1pm.
