Urged to acted promptly by health officials, the Portland City Council voted 7-1 to ban "vaping" from public places within the city's limits.

E-Cigarrette use has become popular in recent years amongst people looking to quit smoking traditional cigarettes. Nationally, however, there is concern that not enough research has been done about second hand smoke from vaping and thus, Portland has become the 275th town or city to ban the use of e-cigarrettes in public places. There's also growing concern that middle schoolers and high schoolers are using e-cigarrettes at an alarming rate. The Portland City Council did say that businesses that sell vaping products can continue to allow customers to use those products inside their stores.
