It's always nice to be able to recognize one of your own as a trend-setting superstar, and this time around, it's our beloved PWM.

Portland International Jetport has been recognized as the first airport in all fifty United States to use entirely recycled deicing fluid on their planes!

According to EfficientGov.com, Airport Director Paul Bradbury credits this innovative development to a partnership with Inland Technologies out of Nova Scotia, who collaborated with the Federal Aviation Association to process used fluid at the airport into a serviceable recycled substance. The airport has been collecting sprayed deicer fluid over the past 6 years to avoid its mixing with storm wastewater.

This just goes to show that with a little innovation, determination, and a big old trough of diligently collected antifreeze, we can begin to change our wasteful ways. Here's hoping other cities follow suit and keep this planet-friendly brainstorm brewing!
