I was clickin' through the new releases on Netflix on Saturday and saw that Night of the Living Deb was just added. You may remember a casting call Mainers who wanted to pretend to be zombies on the streets of the Old Port a couple years ago.

In the summer of 2014, Portland was taken over by walking dead looking for fresh brains. Some of those zombies might by friends of yours. Night of the Living Deb was directed by Kyle Rankin, a native Mainer originally from York and winner of Project Greenlight. It is very cool that he decided to film scenes right here in Portland and feature locals as zombie extras. The film stars Maria Thayer  as ‘Deb’. You might also remember her from the comedy, Forgetting Sarah Marshall .

It's a funny one, bub. Watch the trailer below and you’ll be sayin’, “Wow, I recognize that!” "That's Monument Square!"  "That's Go Berry!"  "There's the TD Bank building!"

Now that I've seen this wicked fun horror/comedy, I totally have a crush on Maria Thayer. She's an adorable bad-ass heroine who saves our great city from a zombie apocalypse! What's not to love?

Check out some behind the scenes footage from the movie shoot.

If you liked Shaun of the Dead, Night of the Living Deb is definitely worth the watch this Halloween week, even better cause it's made in Portland!
