English producer Kevin Nixon – who has worked with psych band Kula Shaker and singer-songwriter Kirsty MacColl – moved to Detroit and opened up the Detroit Institute of Music Education to help cultivate the city’s music and arts scene. Now, he’s taking aim at Detroit’s own Jack White and Eminem, accusing them of abandoning their hometown.

“The music industry more than any other has neglected Detroit,” he said in an interview with the Times. “So many musicians have left here to start careers somewhere else. The record company executives from New York or L.A. just fly right over.”

“[Jack White and Eminem] just passed through,” he continued. “They didn’t build a movement. That’s why I decided to move the music industry here.”

Eminem recently paid tribute to his stomping grounds with a track called ‘Detroit vs. Everybody.’ He released a 16-minute remix of the song featuring Detroit rappers Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Sino, Marv Won, Payroll, Hydro, Big Gov, Boldy James, Kid Vishis, Big Herk, Icewear Vezzo, Detroit Che and Calicoe.

Meanwhile, White has been focusing his efforts in Nashville on his label, Third Man Records. The ex-White Stripes frontman also recently announced a string of tour dates culminating at this year’s Coachella Music Festival in April. Check out the full list below:
