R.E.M. co-founder and guitarist Peter Buck announced a new solo album, titled Warzone Earth, via a post on R.E.M.'s website.

Like Buck's previous solo releases, Warzone Earth will only be available on vinyl. The album will be released via Little Axe Records. Buck said the album will feature appearances by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and Nirvana's Krist Novoselic, along with friends and colleagues Bill Riflin, Kurt Bloch and Scott McCaughey. Stereogum reports it will drop Oct. 16.

Perhaps the coolest guest, however, is folk artist Mingering Mike, who contributed the two delightful cover designs (one above and one below), which Buck included along with the announcement. "I never thought I'd look so good in tights!" Buck joked. "All kidding aside, it's the best solo record I have made, and I'm excited for it to be out in the world," he continued.

Warzone Earth will be Buck's third solo release. R.E.M. officially disbanded in 2011.
