Why didn't someone come up with this sooner? Maine has a clam festival, a lobster festival, even a Moxie festival, but now we have another festival centered around an iconic Maine food coming this summer.

Nothing confuses out-of-state visitors like ordering a hot dog in Maine and being served a bright red dog in a frankfurter roll, but we wouldn't have it any other way here. Now the town of Dexter, Maine is planning the Maine Red Hot Dog Festival on August 13 to celebrate our love of this unique dog.

According to the Maine Red Hot Dog Festival Facebook page, there will be everything you'd expect in a classic Maine festival - A 5K 'Bun Run' along with a kids fun bun run, live entertainment including the Mallet Brothers Band, a rubber ducky race, silent auction, kids games, a petting zoo, golf tournament, lots of food and of course red hot dogs 'cooked and served a number of different ways.' I'm in!

Proceeds from the festival will go to the help revitalize the Dexter community. The Maine Red Hot Dog festival is currently looking for sponsors and vendors and you can find out more info on their Facebook event page.
