UPDATED, 3:22 P.M.: State Police say a Saco man shot and killed his wife and their three children with a 12-gauge shotgun before turning the gun on himself Saturday night, according to WMTW.

State Police identified the victims as Joel Smith, 33, Heather Smith, 35 and their children Jason Montez, 12, Noah Montez, 7, and Lily Smith, 4, according to the Portland television news station. State Police also said that Joel Smith shot and killed his family at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night before he killed himself.

UPDATED, 9:10 a.m.: State Police say the family of five that were found dead inside their Saco apartment Sunday were shot to death, according to WMTW.

The Portland television news station reported that State Police say the bodies of two adults in their 30's and three children ages, 12, 7 and 4 were found in their beds. They also told WMTW that a gun was found beside one of the victims.

Earlier story: State Police are investigating the deaths of five family members whose bodies were found inside their Saco apartment on Sunday, according to WMTW.

The Portland television news station reported a neighbor came to check on them at their home at Riverview Apartments, located at 35 Water Street and discovered the deceased family members, who included three children ages 13, 9 and 4. State Police told WMTW the public is not at risk and that they are not expecting to make any arrests.
