One of Maine's more interesting laws, and one that quite a few people don't abide by, is the studded snow tire law. You are not allowed to have studded tires on any vehicle on Maine roads from May 1st through October 1st. If you attempt to get your car inspected during this time with studded tires, it will fail. If the police catch you with studded snow tires during the "offseason", you could be subject to a fine. But fans of studded tires, well, your season is here!

The Maine DOT took to social media to announce the moratorium on studded tires is over and you can feel free to prepare for winter weather super early by placing your studded tires on any vehicle. And just as a friendly reminder, the Maine DOT suggests you check the tread on your tires as well.

Safe driving when the snow hits!
