Gas prices have been on the rise ever since we hit a low back in February of this year of $1.69 a gallon. Before you start complaining about the price of gas though, have a look at this picture that was taken in Portland back in April of 2013.

That's the 7-Eleven on Washington Avenue in a picture I took on April 30, 2013 when it looked like gas was starting to approach the $4 per gallon mark again. It never made it back though as the average price in Maine, according to Gasbuddy.com topped out just shy of $3.80 per gallon. It had been over $4 per gallon in Maine in September of 2012 and at this point was on an up and down roller coaster ride before prices dropped dramatically in June of 2014.

As you'll see in the charts from Gas Buddy, we are still at some of the lowest prices we've seen over the past 8 years. So rest easy when you fill up. It's not as bad as you think.

PS: Look closely again at that 7-Eleven sign. The 8's are upside down.
