Another local restaurant has lost their battle to the big burger chains as Thurston's Wicked Good Burgers on Forest Ave. closed for good on Sunday night. Thurston's had occupied the location on the corners of Forest Ave. and Ocean Ave. for 2 years.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Thurston's fell victim to increasing costs and in small part, customer impatience. The burger battle in Portland and surrounding towns is tough, with chains like Elevation Burger, Five Guys and b. Good all rolling out similar style restaurants with multiple locations. The chef at Thurston's said that sourcing many ingredients locally led to higher costs for themselves and customers. Additionally, customers seemed resistant to waiting a few minutes to have their food made, cooked and delivered to them.

Thurston's had inhabited a location left behind by Kentucky Fried Chicken and attempted to separate themselves by serving homemade frozen custard along with handmade burgers and fries. But perhaps it was the location, in a high traffic, high stress intersection in Portland that posed more problems than it did help.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the restaurant was unwilling to say that the concept is closed for good. There's an outside chance that Thurston's Wicked Good Burgers opens in a new location in the future. For now, there will be nothing wicked good about that intersection in Portland.
