According to the Bangor Daily News, Paul Gervais and Lloyd Voisine were formally charged with class B theft Wednesday for stealing $45,000 worth of potatoes from the Cyr Potato Corporation over the last 4 and a half years. Gervais and Voisine would then sell the potatoes to local residents businesses and pocket the money. The pair are due in court on November 2nd according to the state police. BDN details the story further in their story here.

I get that "hot" is a euphemism for stolen but damn, part of me was wishing this story would continue with the two elderly dudes hooking up an EZ bake oven out of the back of their 92 Ford Ranger and just selling baked potatoes. Like they had created some new age hot dog stand that just sells crazy fresh baked potatoes right out of the Earth. And since Northern Maine people LOVE potatoes, business had skyrocketed and they couldn't keep up with the demand.

Instead, it's just a couple of old dudes yanking a bunch of potatoes out of the ground in the middle of the night and pretending they've got a legit farm. They should have stuck to stealing butter, bacon and sour cream. Huge market for that in Northern Maine. Huge.
