I can't believe it's taken this long but yes, there is now a World Video Game Hall Of Fame and they've announced their inaugural class of nominees.

You simply can't argue with some of the class that includes Super Mario Bros., Tetris, Pong, Pac-Man and the Legend of Zelda. Some other classic PC games like Oregon Trail, World of Warcraft and Doom also made the initial list of nominees. The committee behind the nominations wanted to make sure there were some contemporary games as well, so The Sims, Angry Birds and Minecraft were also nominated. The class rounds out with Sonic the Hedgehog, Space Invaders, FIFA Soccer and Pokemon (an odd choice in my opinion). The committee left the nomination process open to the public but will close the official voting for what games make it the the Hall of Fame to a panel of video game designers, experts and hardcore fans. There will be an actual induction ceremony at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York on June 4th.

So any obvious omissions for the inaugural class?
