Tuesday 9/22, we're having the guys return to Portland on their way to Halifax to hang out for a little while and play some tunes for a small room of people. Wanna come by?

Want to meet the guys and watch a special intimate acoustic performance at CYY on Tuesday September 22 @ 1pm?

Sign up here. We'll pick a few names and call the winners Monday afternoon!

From the ashes of a cool band called, Days Away; Good Old War was born back in 2008. Like Days Away, Good Old War was filled with great harmonies and vocals. Only this time, they've switched from electric guitars and big sound for something more organic and acoustic.

If you're making some Good Old War stew; you'd find a pot filled with ideas inspired by, influence from and nods to Crosby, Stills & Nash, Guster, Beach Boys, Beatles... but the stuff you'll ladle out and pour into the small bowl is all them in the end. Their vocals drive the sound and luckily the songs are top notch to match.

The band, which used to be a trio now shorted to a duo just released their 4th full length record in June titled, Broken Into Better Shape. With each new record Good Old War evolves and twists just enough to give each record it's own feel. In a busy world of acoustic based pop and roots inspired bands in recent years like Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and Of Monsters and Men to name a few, it's a good time for Good Old War. Although, none of the previously mentioned acts or many others can match the vocal presentation of this duo. Harmonies to stop traffic.

In 2005 when Is started hosting Spinout on WCYY, I used to play Days Away. Check em out! Great stuff.

Then, two of them left that band and started Good Old War with a 3rd member. I instantly played this on Spinout. What a great song...

Here's some more. Enjoy!
