So psyched to have Interpol back in Portland. And hey, they have a pretty cool opening band now too! (read more)

I had the chance to see Interpol supporting the El Pintor record, last year out in Chicago. Twice in two days actually. I saw them indoors at Thalia Hall, then the next day out in the park at Lollapalooza. Both sets were fantastic and the body of music they have to work with live these days is deep and spectacular for true fans. They are the best dressed band in the world too!

Some years back now they added Brandon Curtis on keys. He played all over the El Pintor record and tours steady with the band. He also played with Paul Banks' (of Interpol) side projects. Building his Interpol ties even stronger, Curtis collaborated with drummer Sam Forgarino in his side deal, Empty Mansions. The band also included the insanely awesome Jesus Lizard/Tomahawk guitarist, Duane Denison.

Prior to all that stuff, Brandon comes from one of my favorite bands, Secret Machines. He's a great fit for Interpol's sound and pairs up great live for what they want. BUT... he deserves to still be doing something that's his, and that's no slight to Interpol at all. Curtis is just a super songwriter and talent. He has great ideas for music and the visuals and ideas to wrap around his music. He created a magical band in Secret Machines with his equally talented brother Benjamin, who tragically lost his battle with lymphoma in late 2013.

After a initial start a couple years ago, Curtis is ready for the next phase of his latest project, Cosmicide. For fans of Secret Machines, I think you'll find yourself instantly on board. Luckily for all of us, we'll be able to see Cosmicide open for Interpol on Monday, as Brandon will be doing double duty playing in both bands. So don't hang out in the parking garage pre-partying with your friends like it's 1987. Get to the State Theatre early and check out Cosmicide!

Here's a first taste of Cosmicide that I debuted on Spinout this week.

And here's something Interpol coolness to get you fired up for Monday as well!
