Well Portland, in case you thought there was a shortage of restaurants and pubs where you could snag dinner and a pint of your favorite craft beer, think again. According to the Portland Press Herald, Whole Foods has announced that a new pub style restaurant called  the Somerset Tap House will be opening inside the Whole Foods location at 2 Somerset St. In Portland.

The Somerset Tap House menu promises items that are traditional pub fare, including Shepherds Pie and Mac and Cheese, with ingredients for those items being sourced from local farms in the area. There was no official announcement on what local beers will be carried by the Somerset Tap House when it opens next week. The store has promised 24 taps with "mostly" Maine-made beers featured.

This will be the first in-store restaurant with a hostess and a serving staff in Whole Foods history. Other Whole Foods stores across the country also feature in-store restaurants or bars, but typically are staffed minimally or are self-serve. Portland will serve as a test market to see if this type of restaurant/pub will work for other Whole Foods stores in the future.

The Somerset Tap House hours will be 9am to 10pm on a daily basis. Last call for food with be 9pm and last call for alcohol will be 9:30pm. Happy shopping!
