The best selling single of 2013 was Robin Thicke "Blurred Lines." Admit it, you're not surprised. While you're at it, you might as well admit it's a damn good song too. Ok, if you're favorite band is Pantera, then maybe you disagree.

As far as the best selling album, well that award goes to Justin Timberlake for the "20/20 Experience" album. It sold 2.43 million albums last year. In 2013, that's a solid number, it's the only album that sold over 2 million copies. Eminem, still a prevalent force, landed in second place with 1.73 million copies of his "Marshall Mathers 2" album.  What's showing of the times is boy bands like Backstreet Boys, N Sync etc were selling that volume over the course of a week back in the late 90's, early 00's.

Which leads me to the next set of stats. The most pirated artist of 2013 was Bruno Mars. Not really the honor you want, especially this day in age where music sales are so slow. According to Bit Torrent, Bruno Mars illegally downloaded 5+ million times.

As far as sales as music sales as a whole, here's how things panned out for the year. Digital music sales are down 8%. That's kind of discouraging seeing it's the first time we've seen a drop in digital sales. CD sales? They continue to decline as well, with a 14% decrease from 2012.
