5 Rules You Need To Know Before Visiting Portland’s Underground Speakeasy, Lincoln’s
Lots of people know that there is a speakeasy somewhere in Portland, and lots of people are still in the dark about exactly WHERE to find Lincoln's. But if you are lucky enough to stumble across one of Portland's coolest bars, there are a few things you need to know before you walk through the door. We're here to help.
1. Don't Take Any Pictures Of The Entrance
Keep the secret alive for those that are still wandering around the Old Port looking for Lincoln's. The door, whatever it is or may look like, is part of the charm. If you need to post it on your social media, DON'T! Want to take a sweet picture of your drink or your new t-shirt? Cool, but keep that entrance out of the frame mannnnnnnnnn.
2. Bring A Wad Of Cash Because They Don't Take Credit Cards
You know what never happens at Lincoln's? Arguments over whether the place overcharged you on your credit card! That's because they skip all of that swiping and chip card stuff and stick with old fashioned cash. All of the drinks are 5 bucks, so load up on your Abrahams. Get it?
3. Don't Try To Get Too Fancy With Your Drink
Lincoln's does something really well...make stiff drinks. You're not going to find anything on their menu that features infused olive oil tequila with the essence of Jamaican limes. You'll get a rum and coke or a whiskey and ginger and enjoy it. Then you'll get another.
4. Keep It Chill, Bro
This isn't your 5th year spring break in Cancun, this is an underground speakeasy in Portland, Maine. Have some conversation like an adult, enjoy the ambiance, maybe make a new friend but don't make the door guy's life any harder than it already has to be. Lincoln's gets loud, but it's the kind of loud where everyone is having fun, not throwing fists.
5. Don't Try To Connect To The Wi-Fi...Because It Doesn't Exist
You know a great way to keep your speakeasy a relative secret? Don't have an accessible wi-fi and since you're underground, most cell service is pretty weak too. It keeps people away from all those "wonderful" check-ins, and uploading those large amazing photos of the entrance. We brought this all the way back around, didn't we?
As you can see, there's not a ton of things to worry about when walking into Lincoln's, but they are important. Sit back, relax, maybe take in a comedy show or battle someone at paper, rock, scissors. One thing is for sure, if you haven't found Lincoln's yet, it's time you do.
