The Amazing Acro-Cats

Full disclosure -- I saw a post about The Amazing Acro-Cats while scrolling through social media recently, and I 100% thought it was a sarcastic post. But after doing some quick research, turns out that not only was the post not sarcastic, but to steal a line from Seinfeld -- "they're real, and they're spectacular!"

And they're here for the next couple of weekends.

Last weekend was the first of three separate weekends of shows that The Amazing Acro-Cats and the Rock Cats Band are putting on in Portland at St. Lawrence Arts Center on Congress Street. According to the Facebook Events page they posted about their Portland stop,

"The Amazing Acro-cats Featuring Tuna and the Rock Cats are a troupe of touring performing house cats. This one-of-a-kind, two hour long purrformance features talented domesticated house cats roll on balls, ride skateboards, jump through hoops, and more!"

On top of amazing acrobatic feats from cats, the finale of the show highlights Tuna and the Rock Band, a seven-cat rock band. Ironically, none of the cats are named Tuna; however, the band also features a chicken on the tambourine. That chicken's name?

Cluck Norris.

The Amazing Acro-Cats have been featured on national shows

Not only are the Amazing Acro-Cats absolutely real, but they've been featured nationally multiple times. In 2018, like many Maine pups have in the past and will be in the future, the Amazing Acro-Cats were part of the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. Most recently, they were highlighted on episode two of the Netflix special Cat People.

And back in 2015, they were featured in a segment on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where -- no lie -- Stephen actually played the role of a cat and was featured with the troupe.

If cats are your jam, or you're into really outside the box stuff, or you just want to check out a chicken named Cluck Norris, The Amazing Acro-Cats featured Tuna and the Rock Cats are performing at St. Lawrence Arts Center on the following dates and times:

August 18, 19, 25 and 26: 7p

August 20 and 27: 3p and 8p

August 21 and 28: 2p

Tickets to the above shows haven't sold out yet and can be purchased online, or if you're looking for a next-level experience (or you're REALLY into cats), you can actually volunteer for the show.
